This is a Beijing-Jeep Cherokee XJ City Special, seen in the Dongzhimen area in central Beijing in January 2012. The Jeep was a bit dusty but that was normal in the cold winters in the Chinese capital. The car was loaded to the max with factory accessories.

Beijing-Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland In A Rare Color In China

Here we have a pretty Beijing-Jeep Grand Cherokee, seen in Beijing in the hot summer of 2018. The good Grand Cherokee was in a fine shape for its years and painted in wine red. This was a factory color but a very rare one, the vast majority of the China-made Grand Cherokees were painted black.

A Beige Beijing-Jeep Cherokee XJ In China With Blue 京A License Plates

A beautiful Beijing-Jeep Cherokee XJ 2.5, seen in 2011 in Beijing. The good Cherokee was painted in beige. This was a factory color but almost nobody went for it, so beige Chinese Cherokee’s are very rare. The car was in a good shape when I met it. The gold colored alloy wheels and fog lights were standard on high-spec models.

Mitsubishi Outlander With A Body Kit In China

A heavily modified Mitsubishi Outlander, seen in the Lido area in Beijing in 2011. The Outlander is normally a somewhat boring SUV but this one was not. It looked like real racer with a hefty body kit, lower suspension, air inlets in the bonnet and bumper, darkened windows, and black five-spoke alloy wheels with blue brake calipers.

A big black Beijing-Jeep Cherokee 2500, seen near a small repair shop in the far east of Beijing in December 2019. The 2500 looked brilliant with raised suspension and big off-road tires with shiny alloy wheels. The rest of the vehicle is original. The Beijing-Jeep 2500 was a heavily updated variant of the Beijing-Jeep Cherokee XJ.

A Beijing-Jeep Cherokee XJ Triplet In Beijing

And that day I went to the Beijing Tap Water Museum in east Beijing. Besides a lot of water pipes and other water supply equipment, I also found a triplet of very pretty Beijing-Jeep Cherokee XJ’s. These are two early examples, with fog lights on the bumper, and factory mud flaps, wheels, and roof rack. The colors are original too. The car on the left has a very old blue 京A license plate, indicating it was one of the very first privately registered cars in the capital.
