Here’s a Geely Merrie hatchback, seen in Beijing in 2016. It was in fantastic shape for its age, with the insurance stickers on the windshield going back to 2003! The Merrie is completely original, down to the wheels and even the mud flaps. A real time capsule on the road.

This is a Hafei Baili HFJ 7090, seen in March 2017 at a car market in Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province. The beautiful Baili was in reasonable shape. Oddly, the owner had painted the wheels green and the interior blue.

This is the Qiyuan A06E, a streamlined, fully-electric fastback sedan launched earlier this year. It has a dark lightbar with the Qiyuan logo in the middle, darkened windows, and a lidar above the windshield. The Qiyuan A06E is a rear-wheel drive car with a max range of 630 kilometers.

This is a Kia Capital SLX, seen in the far northeast of Beijing in May 2016. The old Kia sedan was in reasonable shape for its years, painted in white with Daewoo-branded wheel covers and early blue Beijing 京A license plates.

Here’s a Denza N8L, seen in front of a Denza experience store in the great city of Xi’an. It was a dealer demo car, perfectly washed and maintained. The color name is poetic: Snow Jade Firefly, and it is fitted with 20-inch wheels with aero wheel covers.Â

This is a W140 Mercedes-Benz S 280, seen in a central Beijing office area in February 2013. The big Mercedes looked absolutely perfect! It was very rare to see a W140 in this condition in China – especially in the winter. The owner clearly took very good care of his S 280.

This spaceship is actually a Li i6 SUV, seen in southern Beijing earlier this month. It had been a windy day with a light sand storm, so most cars on the street were covered in a thick layer of dust. Otherwise, the i6 looked perfect in Pearl White.

The Volvo S90 sedan is still in production – but only in China – and only with a long wheelbase. In May 2025, the S90 got an update, with a redesigned grille, headlights, and bumpers. Earlier this month, I went to a Volvo dealer in Beijing to check it out.
