Here’s a Galaxy M9, seen at a Galaxy dealer in Beijing. The big PHEV SUV was brand new and still had the protective plastic wheel covers from the factory. The M9 is 5.2 meters long and packs serious power.
About Galaxy

Initially, Galaxy was a series under the Geely brand. However, in 2024, it became a stand-alone brand. Galaxy has a large and fast-expanding lineup, with 12 different EV and PHEV models. The brand does very well. It is, in fact, the best-selling car brand of the entire Geely Group. In August 2025, Galaxy sold 101.199 cars, good for the 4th spot in the brand-sales-rankings, just below Toyota and just above Wuling. The original Geely brand came in at the sixth spot. August marked the first time that Galaxy outsold Geely.
The Galaxy M9

The Galaxy M9 is the new flagship SUV of the Galaxy brand. When I saw it, it hadn’t even launched yet. Staff told me that it had just arrived. It sure is an impressive car, with a smooth body and large windows. The drag coefficient is 0.285, which is pretty good for a large SUV. However, it is also a tad too generic, especially from the side; it could be an SUV of any modern Chinese car brand. The color of the car in the photos is called Dark Night Black.

The M9 has traditional door handles. Hidden door handles are out of fashion in China. The SUV carries a lot of chrome, which is a new-old trend, with loads of shiny trim around the windows, on the doors, and in the bumpers.
The interior

The interior is wilder than the exterior, with an Evening Reflect Orange color scheme and aluminum and black trim. It has imitation-leather seats, which is rare in this segment; most competitors fit real-leather seats.

Galaxy equips the M9 with 3 screens: a 30-inch main screen that stretches out to the passenger side, a 12.66-inch driver’s display, and a 32-inch HUD. The operating system is Flyme Auto. The shifter is mounted on the steering wheel column. At the center tunnel, it has a twin-50W wireless charger and a row of buttons with shortcuts for the infotainment.

The car in the photos is the top-spec FWD version, called the Explorer Edition. It is also equipped with a 27-speaker audio system and a 17.3-inch fold-down screen for the rear passengers. The screen is up in the photo; it is located between the sunroof and the panoramic sunroof.

The Galaxy M9 is a six-seat car, with a 2/2/2 layout. With all the seats up, the trunk has a modest capacity of 359 liters. That goes up to 1025 iters with the 3rd row down, and to a massive 2771 liters with the 3rd and 2nd row down.
Specifications of the Galaxy M9

The M9 stands on 255/50 R20 tires with pretty 15-spoke alloy wheels. The dimensions of the Galaxy M9 are 5205/1999/1800, 3030. The Galaxy M9 Explorer Edition has an FWD PHEV powertrain, combining a 1.5 turbo with one electric motor and a 3-speed DHT gearbox. The combined output is 300 kW (402 hp) and 605 Nm. It has a 200 km/h top speed and 0-100 takes 7.3s.

Chinese PHEVs typically have a very long range, and the Galaxy M9 is no exception. There’s a 60-liter fuel tank and a CATL 41.46 kWh LFP battery pack. Galaxy claims a 1505-kilometer range and a 230-kilometer EV range.
Price of the Galaxy M9

Characters: 银河, Yínhé, the Chinese name of Galaxy.
The Galaxy M9 launched in September 2025. The Explorer Edition costs 197.800 yuan, or $27.8K. That is comparable with the competition. The base model, with a smaller battery, costs just over $25K. Galaxy also sells a $33.5K AWD version with two electric motors and a crazy 530 kW/910 Nm, but I haven’t seen one of those in the flesh yet.

It has a pretty “Galaxy Bar” between the front lights. The lidar unit on the roof is notably small. The M9 has an L2 ADAS, with 26 sensors in total.

Nearby was a statue of a Chinese guardian lion, guarding an empty building.
