About China's Coolest Cars
Here we have a very pretty Volkswagen Individual Touareg W12, seen on a second-hand car market in the great city of Chengdu in China in 2016. The massively impressive SUV was on sale for a steep 520.500 yuan. Good deal! When new in 2006, price was a far steeper 1.58 million yuan. Not many were sold in China, so seeing one in the wild is very special.

A Volkswagen Passat Lingyu on the 2010 China International Exhibition on Police Equipment (CIEPE), held in the beautiful Beijing Exhibition Center in northwest Beijing. Sadly, the show has since moved to the less pretty China National Convention Center.
The show was about all sorts of police equipment, ranging from guns to uniforms to surveillance cameras. Great fun. But even better were the police cars, displayed by car makers hoping for a deal with the cops. Some of these cars did eventually make it into real police cars, others didn’t. This is a Hafei Lobo Cross, seen in a car market in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province in China. The Hafei Lobo, or Lubao in Chinese, was manufactured from 2002 until 2012, with 3 facelifts over the years.
Here we have a black Hyundai Sonata with black Shandong Province license plates, seen at a small car shop in the far east of Beijing.
The man on the left is the shop’s owner, and the two younger gentlemen are his employees. They were all from Shandong, shipping vehicles from there and selling them in the capital.

Back in 2016 I was in a Morgan shop in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province in China. They had three very fine cars on display, starting with this 4-Seater Roadster, painted in yellow-beige with a brown interior.

An extremely beautiful Volvo 121 S Amazon four-door sedan, seen in the great city of Chengdu in Sichuan Province in 2016. I met this great Swedish motor in a Volvo dealer owned by the Sanhe Group. This company operates dozens of car dealers in the Chengdu area, and they also have a museum with a PV544 and a large classic-car restoration shop.

This purple beauty is a Qinchuan Flyer QJC7081, commonly called ‘the Flyer’. It was a bit dusty and a bit dirty but in a very good general shape. I met it in the great city of Chengdu in Sichuan Province.

A red Xiali TJ7100 sedan, seen near the Agricultural Exhibition Center in Beijing in 2009, parked next to a white Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL. The good old Xiali was a bit dirty and dusty but otherwise in a fine shape.

A fiery red Heico Sportiv Volvo C30, seen on a local auto show in Beijing in 2010. It looked absolutely brilliant and there was another one nearby.
The show was in a small sports stadium. Just previously, there had been a travel exhibition at the same venue, and the backdrops were still there! The red C30 stood in front of Greece.

A horse-drawn carriage in Beijing. Until about 2010 it was quite normal to see these in the capital in summer, bringing in fruit and vegetables from the nearby countryside and selling it straight from the cart. On warm these in the weekends you could see them on many a street corner.
And they came all they way to within the Second Ring Road! This picture was taken near Dongsi Shitiao in 2009. Sadly, today horse carts are no longer allowed inside the capital. Note the Changan-Ford Fiesta sedan in the background!
