About China's Coolest Cars
The Volvo S90 sedan is still in production – but only in China – and only with a long wheelbase. In May 2025, the S90 got an update, with a redesigned grille, headlights, and bumpers. Earlier this month, I went to a Volvo dealer in Beijing to check it out.

This is the Volvo EM90, a full-size full-electric MPV for the Chinese car market. I met this Agate Black example on a second-hand car market in south Beijing earlier this summer.
Here’s a Volvo 240 GL sedan, seen at a car repair shop in northeast Beijing in 2018. Someone parked the poor Volvo in the back of the building, surrounded by electric motorbikes and parts.
Here’s a Volvo 940, seen in Beijing in the cold winter of 2014. The classic Swedish sedan stood in a small compound, in front of a red Honda Civic. There had been a lot of snow earlier that week, so every car on the road looked dirty. Snow was always gray in Beijing, never totally white. Nowadays, snow is rare in the Chinese capital.

This is a Volvo S80L, a China-only long-wheelbase variant of the Volvo S80 sedan. I met this beautiful black example in the Chinese capital Beijing. It was well-maintained and looked great for its age.

Here we have a beautiful Volvo S70 T5 in the Chinese capital Beijing in 2016. The Swedish sedan was in great shape, painted white with slightly tinted windows and interesting wheel covers.

A Volvo S60L sedan, parked alongside the road in China. The Swede looked great, washed, and well-maintained. It was painted in Electric Silver Metallic, a light color that looks very good on the S60.
