About China's Coolest Cars
Here’s a Shuanghuan Laiwang MPV in Beijing in the summer of 2014. The vehicle was in reasonable shape. It had seen some life! Busts on the bumpers, faded paint, and it had steel wheels instead of the factory alloys. Still, these cars are ultra rare nowadays, so seeing one in the wild is always great.

This is a cool Mercedes-Benz 230 E. I met it at a car repair market in south Beijing in 2024. The good old Benz looked great in dark blue. It had lowered suspension and was fitted with period AMG alloy wheels.

A slightly overloaded Maxus V80, seen on the side road of the Fourth Ring Road in Beijing by our good friend Lao Wei, thank you for the pictures! The poor V80 is carrying a heavy load. The driver simply opened the rear doors and loaded extra stuff on a small platform that sticks out of the cabin.

Here’s a BYD Sealion 07 EV in the Chinese capital Beijing. It was brand new, and yet without license plates. The Sealiaon EV is an electric SUV-coupe launched in 2024. It looks great in black, with black-gray 20-inch wheels and darkened windows. A stealthy machine!

Look at this! A beautiful Toyota Land Cruiser BJ70V in China, seen in the summer of 2018 at a car market in Beijing. Its fiery red color matches the Tesla billboard behind the vehicle. The Toyota was in super shape and largely original.

Here’s a Dodge Challenger seen in June 2021 by Friend of the Site Joachim in Suzhou, the largest city of Jiangsu Province. The big Dodge looked great. The color is Destroyer Gray, and that has to be one of the best color names ever.

Here we have a super cool Nissan Petrol 4800 VTC SGL pickup truck, seen at the parking lot of a residential area in Beijing in 2018. The big Nissan ute looked brilliantly badass, painted in beige with red stickers and extra-wide off-road tires.

This Cadillac DeVille stretched limousine was spotted at a small car repair place in Beijing in 2018. The big Cadillac was dusty and dirty but otherwise in good shape. Interestingly, it had six doors.

Here we have SouEast Freeca DN6440-III, seen in the far east of Beijing in 2016. The Freeca was one of my favorite late 1990’s cars in China. It just looked so cool, with a two-tone color body, big bumpers, and sporty wheels.
