A Volkswagen Santana sedan at a roadside Varta battery shop, seen in the great megacity of Chongqing a few years back.
These kinds of small shops used to be everywhere, but nowadays most are gone. The Santana is dressed up with a shiny wheel arch extender. The Volkswagen Santana was made in China by FAW-Volkswagen. The seven-spoke alloy wheels were factory standard.
Varta is a German battery-making company. Conventional Varta batteries were widely used by Chinese car makers in the 2000s, but the German company missed out on the transition to electric cars. Nowadays, Varta no longer plays a significant role in China anymore.
