This is the Volkswagen Jetta Sport, a sporty variant of the Jetta sedan. It comes with a racy body kit, fiery red paint, a black grille, shiny alloys, and a small spoiler on the back.

This Jetta should not be confused with the North American Jettawhich is a totally different car. The Chinese Jetta is a very cheap and basic sedan, priced from just 79.900 yuan ($11.700). The current generation launched in 2013, and the Sport arrived in 2016.

Badge on the C-pillar with sport in a red font. Power comes from a 1.4 turbo with 131 hp and 225 Nm, which is a lot for such a small car. Gearbox is a seven-speed DSG. Top speed is 200 km/h and 0-100 is gone in 8.7 seconds. Price, as of today, starts at 134.900 yuan or $19.760. That is $8000 more than the basic car, which has just 90 horsepower.

So is the Sport worth the extra cash..? It sure is, 40 extra horses is a lot in a car like the Jetta, making it a ‘hot sedan’. Sadly however, the high price makes it a very rare sight on the road, and this example was only the very first one that I had ever seen.

The interior is dressed up with sporty seats with black stripes, a nicer steering wheel, and with matte gray trim that looks kind of expensive.

The rear seats get the same stripes.

Very subtle spoiler.

The Jetta is made locally at the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture.

Two end pipes for 131 horses!

Not just a body kit; the rare Jetta Sport is truly fast. Great car!
