A Not-so Real Hongqi Scooter From China

This is a fine red electric scooter, seen in Beijing. It is branded ‘Red Flag’, complete with an image of the Hongqi HQ3 above the rear wheel.

There is a Red Flag logo, written in white English script, with red lines on each side. Below that stands a red star. The mirrors are nicely chromed.

This Red Flag has nothing to do with the Red Flag (Hongqi) car brand. A lot of brands are called Red Flag in China, selling and making all sorts of things. But in this case the maker very obviously pretends a connection with the cars.

Key hole for the saddle in the upper-left. Below that the real brand name of the scooter: Chihua Diandongche. Below that a very pretty image of the Hongqi HQ3 sedan.

There is a smaller sticker at the front. It seems the scooter’s name was damaged at some point, and repaired with duct tape. Keep ‘m rolling…

This electric bike sure is a beauty.

Sadly, it seems that the Chihua brand no longer exists. But happily I found an old online ad from 2007 showing the exact same model. Product number is 6940252. Power comes from a 48V20Ah lead-acid battery. Range is 70 kilometers, charging takes 6 to 8 hours, and top speed is 35 km/h.
