A giant Nissan Safari 3-door SUV, seen in east Beijing, capital of China. The famous Japanese off-roader is painted in black, stands on big wheels, and is further sexed up with darkened windows and large round fog lights.

The Nissan Safari is basically a fifth generation Y61 Nissan Petrol 3-door with a different name. The Safari name is used in Japan and the Middle East. Production of the Safari continues until today, in 5 and 3 door forms. The car we have here appears to be a later 2000’s model.

The Safari was/is never officially sold in China, but many are shipped in via the gray market, mostly from the Middle East. Power comes from a old school 4.8 liter inline 6 petrol engine with 280 hp and 420 Nm, mated to an equally old-school five-speed manual, sending horses to all wheels.

The interior with very basic cloth seats and a truck load of cheap black plastics. But functional. Right..?

Side boards were standard. Spare wheel cover has been removed. Tow hook is a very rare thing in China.

Safari badge above the license plate. With cool-shaped A’s.

Air duct on the bonnet is original and functional.
