Ford Evos Is A China-only Crossover-Coupe

Ford Evos

This is a Ford Evos, a China-only crossover coupe with a fastback body. The Evos is a sharp-looking car, but a bit of an odd one, mixing elements of a sedan, a hatchback, and a station wagon.

The car we have here is a fully loaded Ford Evos 1st Edition, a special limited launch edition. It comes with extra coolness, like the dark-black windows and black wheels.

The Ford Evos is a China-only car, developed in China for the Chinese car market. It is made locally at the Changan-Ford joint venture. The Evos was launched in 2021.

The interior with sports seats and a wide center tunnel. It has a large round steering wheel. We are seeing a lot of large steering wheels in Chinese cars recently, a new trend it seems. So either the wheel is large and round, or it is weirdly shaped and small. The absolute eye-catcher of the interior is the 27-inch 4K mega infotainment screen on the dashboard. The screen starts in the middle and runs to the right side of the vehicle. There is a separate 12.3-inch instrument panel in front of the driver. That’s not visible in my pic, so click here for a Ford factory picture of the dashboard.

Chinese customers like a spacious rear cabin, and the Evos delivers. The Evos is based on the Ford C2 platform. It is a large car: 4920/1920/1600, with a 2945 wheelbase.

The rear lights have a cool design and are connected with a bar over the trunk. The secondary brake lights are nicely integrated into a spoiler-like unit on the roof.

Characters on the right: 长安福特, Changan Fute, Changan-Ford. The Evos is a front-wheel drive car. Power comes from a 2.0 turbo with 238 hp and 376 Nm. The motor is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Top speed is a modest 193 km/h and fuel consumption is 7.5 liters per 100 kilometers.

Sadly for Ford, the Evos doesn’t sell very well. In October, Ford only sold 178 units of the poor thing. Chinese car buyers don’t seem to get its design and positioning, and Ford does not offer any hybrid versions. It ain’t cheap either, with prices starting at  199.800 yuan or $27K. But it is nice to see that Ford is trying. They have to because sales have been going down for years, mainly caused by the ascend of Chinese-brand EVs. In October again, Ford was only the 27th-best-selling brand in China, behind Tank and just before Cadillac.
