Mazda CX-4 Is Lucky In China

Mazda CX-4

Here we have a Mazda CX-4 compact crossover SUV, seen in 2016 in Beijing, capital of China.  The good Mazda looked great in black, with darkened windows and matte gray allow wheels.

The Mazda has a license plate from Inner Mongolia. ‘8’ is a lucky number in China, associated with wealth. This Mazda has a very lucky plate, with three times 8!

The Mazda CX-4 is a China-only car produced by the FAW-Mazda joint venture. It was launched in 2016 and received a facelift in 2020. So obviously, the car we have here is an original pre-facelift example.

The 2016-2020 Mazda CX-4 was available with two four-cylinder gasoline engines: a 2.o liter with 158 hp and 202 Nm and a 2.5 liter with 192 hp and 252 Nm. Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox sending horses to all four wheels. Our car has the 2.5 under the hood. Size: 4633/1840/1535, with a 2700 wheelbase.

The CX-4 is a pretty car in any way, but for reasons unknown Mazda decided it was only for the Chinese car market. I remember when the CX-4 was launched in China.

I really thought it would be launched internationally as well, because it was such a great looking car. But that never happened and the CX-4 stayed in China.

It was quite sporty too, with fat exhaust pipes and wide tires. Sadly, it never sold particularly well, likely because it cost a lot of money. In 2016, the base 2.5 liter model sold for 192.800 yuan.  It is cheaper now, with the base 2.5 going for 179.800 yuan.
