A Chery Fulwin 2 hatchback, seen on a rainy summer’s day in Beijing in China. The Chery was in a fine shape, albeit a bit dusty, painted in gold and fitted with the original factory wheels.

The Chery Fulwin 2, also known as the Chery A13, was a subcompact car manufactured by Chery Automobile from 2009 until 2019. The Fulwin 2 got a facelift in 2012. The car that I saw is an original pre-facelift version. Chery made two variants: this five-door hatchback and a sedan. Like so many Chinese cars of that period, the Fulwin 2 was designed in Italy, in this case by Torino Design. They did a good job, drawing an attractive hatchback with some sporty touches.

The interior was in urgent need of a cleanup. So much dirt! Check that gear lever. What did the owner do with that..? The screen is a later after-market accessory, Chery didn’t have screens that large in their cars back then. These third-party screens were very popular, and usually had functions like television and smartphone connectivity. Normally, the dash looked like this. The owner also added seat covers, a back pillow, and a steering wheel cover.

The bench is under cover as well, with pillow.

The pre-facelift Chery Fulwin 2 was powered by a 1.5 liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with an output of 109 hp and 140 Nm. Top speed was 160 km/h and fuel consumption 6.5 liter per 100 kilometer. Only gearbox was a 5-speed manual. After the facelift, Chery also added a 4-speed automatic option to the lineup. Price in 2010 started at 52.800 yuan, an absolute bargain for the amount of car you got. It wasn’t exactly small: 4269/1686/1592, with a 2527 wheelbase and five seats.

The rear with a roof spoiler with integrated brake lights, a spider-like wiper, and a huge Chery logo.

The Acteco badge for Chery’s Acteco engine series, since turned into an engine brand.

The Chery Fulwin 2 was most popular in smaller cities in China. They are quite a rare sight in the mega cities like Beijing. Note the license plate frame kindly provided by a local Chery dealer.
