Mercedes-Benz E240 Is A Golden Oldie In China

Mercedes-Benz E240

An incredible well-conserved Mercedes-Benz E240, seen in Beijing back in 2016. The great Mercedes was in a perfect shape, painted in a light shade of gold and fitted with the original factory wheel covers.

The Mercedes-Benz E210 sedan was manufactured from 1996 until 2002 with a facelift in 2000. Our golden car is a post-facelift. It wasn’t sold in China in the modern way, with a dealer network and such, but it was officially exported in China by Daimler and sold in government-owned markets and maintained by so called ‘repair shops‘.

I have seen quite a few of the W210 in Beijing, so they must have sold quite a few. The first E-Class that was sold mass market via dealers was the W211, with sales starting in 2003.

The classy interior was in a great shape as well, with beige leather and dark brown wood. The E240 model was powered by a 2.4 liter V6 petrol engine, good for 168 hp and 225 Nm. The motor was mated to a 5-speed automatic.

Many Chinese drivers like to ride with an extra pillows, mainly on the lower backrest and on the headrest. The driver of the Mercedes had a trendy yellow pillow, apparently a present from the real-estate website SouFun.com.

The E 240 badge consisted of four separate letters and numbers. The German factory workers attached them perfectly to the car’s body, ready for eternity…

… just like the beautiful hood ornament.

Timeless design of the W210 still attractive today. Even now, there are still many of these around on the streets of the Chinese capital, thankfully so.
