Production of the B6 Volkswagen Passat in China started in 2003 and ended all the way up in 2011. Over the years it was updated and facelifted several times. The car we have here is a 2007-2009 2.8 V6, the highest spec B6 Passat in China, and probably in the world.

The Volkswagen Passat 2.8 V6 was powered by an advanced 2.8 liter 30-valve V6 engine, good for 190 hp and 260 Nm. Top speed was 210 km/h and zero to a hundred was gone in 10 seconds flat.

The 2.8 V6 was positioned as the ultimate luxurious Passat. It came with a high quality paint, lots of chrome, extra large tires with unique alloys, darkened passenger car windows, an interior with loads of leather and wood, and individual screens for the passengers in the back.

The 2.8 V8 was the only Passat to have a standard GPS system, and the infotainment system could play CDs and DVDs. The wood in this car seems in good shape, the seats look a bit worn, but they are well protected by a set of after-market seat covers.

The screens in the rear were fitted in the headrests.

Sadly, all that pretty came with a price. in 2007 the Passat 2.8 V6 sold for 301.800 yuan. The next-most expensive model was the Passat 1.8T VIP, powered by the 150 hp 1.8 turbo and loaded with goodies as well, although not with the fancy screens. Price for that one was 227.800 yuan, almost 80.000 less than the 2.8 V6. The difference was enough to buy a high end Volkswagen Polo! A basic 1.8 turbo sold for 199.98o yuan.

Not many buyers saw the extra value of 40 more horses and some extra luxuries for 80.000 yuan, and sales of the 2.8 V6 were slow. These days it really is a rarity on the road.

The lights visors might look after-market, but they really were factory-standard for the 2007-2009 series Passat.

Even the badges looked more luxurious on the 2.8 model. It probably was worth the extra money, but the money was just a but too much.

The Passat is made in China by Shanghai-Volkswagen, and this is their badge.
