The Volkswagen Santana 2000 was manufactured from 1995 until 2003. It was based on the Brazilian Santana (Volkswagen do Brasil) but it had a longer wheelbase for more space in the back. The Santana 2000 was made in China by the Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture.

Power came from a 1.8 liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 97 hp and 155 Nm. Size: 4600/1700/1423, and wheelbase was 2656.

Beautiful original alloys.

Interior is completely original too, bar for the new radio unit. Gearbox is a five-speed manual.

The Santana 2000 was massively popular with taxi drivers, fleet managers, and the government. It was less popular with private buyers. It wasn’t expensive though, the base versions sold for about 90.000 and the top end cars for about 150.000 yuan.

The characters write Shanghai-Dazhong, or Shanghai-Volkswagen.

Very well preserved. Let’s hope she stays this way. For more about the Volkswagen Santana in China see this article.
