Fifth Generation Nissan Laurel Is Abandoned in China

A fifth generation Nissan Laurel (C32), seen in 2019 in the great city of Hohhot, capital of Inner Mongolia. The car was in poor condition and wasn’t even locked.

The fifth generation Nissan Laurel(C32) was made from 1984 to 1993. Our Hohhot car was a pre-facelift example. This was the last generation to be sold outside Japan.  It had some famous competitors, like Toyota Cresta and Toyota Mark II.

From this picture we can inform that the car is a hardtop version. This car parked there for so long that someone had written their telephone number to advertise.

It looked so luxury. From the gear knob we can know the car was originally a right-hand-drive (RHD) one. In the 1990s and early 2000s, there were lots of Japanese RHD cars smuggled into China. For example, this one. The buyers and sellers would use various of ways to get them legal. And Nissan Laurel was never officially sold in China.

For us, it’s difficult to know which variant the car was. But there’s one thing that clear–the car won’t go another place forever, unless someone scraps it. If I can back there and find it, I will write more about this car later.

Hopefully someone will repair this rare Nissan.
