A Beautiful Third Generation Ford Mustang 5.0 GT Convertible With Black Plates In China

Ford Mustang 5.0 GT

A third generation Ford Mustang 5.0 GT convertible, seen at a meeting of the ‘Mustang Club of China’ at FB Auto in 2016. The ‘Stang was in a great shape was clearly in very good hands, painted in white with a black convertible top and a red leather interior. The ultra cool body kit was standard.

The third generation Ford Mustang was manufactured from 1978 to 1993, with a major facelift in 1987. This is a facelifted car, and it is perfectly 1980’s, screaming ‘see me’, money, and optimism. The 3th gen Mustang was not sold in China so these are very rare down here.

The interior was utterly brilliant, clad all the way in dark red leather: leather seats, leather door upholstery, a leather dash and a leather steering wheel. The interior matches perfectly with the white exterior. The center stack is very basic, even for then, with a 3-dial panel for the air conditioning and a surprisingly simple radio-cassette player.

The Mustang 5.0 GT was the most powerful third generation Ford Mustang, except for the SVT Cobra special. The GT was powered by a 5.0 V8 with an output of 225hp and 410nm. The motor was mated to a 5-speed manual, as fitted in this car, or a 4-speed automatic.

The 5.0 badge on the front fender.

The five-spoke wheels are period beauties with a colored Mustang logo in the middle.

The luggage rack was a popular option, but the covered light units were standard on the 5.0 GT.

The famous black license plates were issued to foreign-owned companies from the 1980’s to the mid 00’s. These companies could buy a car locally or import one. There were no limits on the number of cars or on price or on engine type. The numbering started at A·00001 and then it went up. So the lower the number the older the car. So this 京A·01100 is pretty old.

An interesting Seven Autobahn Club sticker on the back. Sadly, I can’t find out what it is for or about. If you know more, please let me know in the comments below. More on the other Mustangs of the meeting in a later post!
