Peugeot 407 Coupe 3.0 Is The Front Overhang Champion In China

Peugeot 407 Coupe

A pretty Peugeot 407 Coupe 3.0, seen near a Peugeot dealer on a car market in Beijing. The Peug’ was in a fine shape, painted in a stylish shade of black with a light brown interior. It was a but dusty, but so is every car in Beijing.

Design of the 407 series was odd, mostly due to the enormous front overhang. This was so for the sedan and the wagon, but on the Coupe it looked even longer optically, and that was mainly caused by the three faux air-vents on the front-front fender, which only emphasized the giganticism of the overhang situation.

It looks much better from this angle! The Peugeot 407 Coupe was produced from 2006 until 2011. Peugeot did sell it officially in China. A brave decision, as coupes have never been very popular here, especially not in this segment. Peugeot also sold the pretty 406 Coupe in China, so I guess they wanted some continuation there.

The leather seats look truly beautiful and luxurious, leather around the steering wheel as well, but the rest of the interior has a tad too many black plastics.

In China, the 407 Coupe was only available with the 3.0 V6, with an output of 210 hp and 290 Nm, mated to a 6-speed automatic, sending horses to the front wheels. It was quite fast, with a 235 km/h top speed and 0-100 in 7.8 seconds.

Peugeot didn’t sell many of these big-overhang coupes in China. Price didn’t help. There was just one version and it sold for 490.000 yuan in 2006. That was a lot of money. For the same cash, you could buy four (!) locally-made Peugeot 307 1.6 sedans, also in 2006.  Though choice. But apparently Peugeot didn’t care that much, and they continued to sell the 407 Coupe all the way until 2010. Perhaps the French saw it as a halo car..?

The sporty five-spoke alloys were factory standard. And don’t forget to check out those air vents!
