NIO ES6

This is the NIO ES6 Premier Edition, a mid-sized electric SUV. It was the second car of the NIO brand, launched after the larger ES8 and the sportier EC6. The NIO ES6 debuted in China in 2019 and so far there are no real plans for export.

NIO is one of China’s many ‘EV startups’ and one of very few that actually sells cars. But they don’t actually make them. Production has been outsourced to JAC, a large state-owned automobile conglomerate.

The NIO ES6 may be smaller than the gigantic ES8 but it isn’t a small car. It measures 4850 millimeter in length and 1965 in width. The ES6 seats five whereas the ES8 seats seven.

The ‘Premier Edition’ is the top-trim level fitted with the fanciest interior. The 14-inch screen shows lots of dirty fingerprints. The screen in front of the driver is rather small.

The pod on dash-top is a digital assistant robot thingy, very popular among Chinese automakers right now. You can ask it to do all sorts of things, like changing the radio station or calling somebody, and the pod will show fuzzy light effects when it replies.

Alloys look very racy.

The ES6 Premier Edition is a very powerful car. The electric motor has an output of 536 hp and 725 Nm. The motor is mated to a 84 kWh battery. NEDC range is 510 kilometers. Top speed is 200 km/h and 0-100 is gone in 4.7 seconds. NIO claims a full fast-charge takes 40 minutes, but a full charge at home on standard 220V takes a rather long 12 hours.

The Chinese name if NIO is Weilai (蔚来).

Jianghuai Qiche = JAC Motor.

Price for the NIO ES6 Premier Edition starts at a steep 548.000 yuan or $83.900. Not cheap at all, but lots of power.
