Sanxing SXZ6490 Dodge Grand Caravan

Sanxing SXZ6490 Dodge Grand Caravan

This is a Sanxing SXZ6490 second generation Dodge Caravan. Sanxing Auto, translated as 3-Star, was a Guangdong-based company that made a wild range of cars in the 1990’s and early 2002’s.

The Dodge Grand Caravan was assembled (CKD) under an official agreement with Chrysler. The Grand Caravan was made by Sanxing from 1994 until 1997. It was available with a 2.5 four and with a 3.3 liter V6.

The 京A blue license plate on this car is very old, likely 1994 or 1995, when private cars were just starting to become more common. In those days, the numbers were actually counting, so this is the 20288’th private car registered in Beijing!

The Sanxing Grand Voyager had a cool 3-Star badge in the grille.

I found this great car at a small car repair shop south of the 6th Ring Road in Beijing. It looked dusty, but they were still using it to carry stuff around!

The dashboard is totally U.S.-spec. The seat covers are a typical Chinese after-market accessory.

The rear seats were taken out.

These windows are very dark. Note the tiny Chrysler badge just below the windshield.

The 3-Star badge on the left side.

This beauty of a badge says Guangdong Sanxing Qiche (Guangdong 3-Star Auto) in traditional Chinese characters. There were no engine badges on the car but the guys at the shop told me it had the 2.5 under the bonnet, with 100 hp and 184 Nm. Gearbox is a 4-speed automatic.

A true piece of Chinese automotive history. May she survive!
