Welcome to this special New Year’s Eve story on CoolCarsInChina.com. And we do have a very special car: a totally clean and totally original second generation Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ.
The Grand Cherokee WJ was manufactured from 1998 until 2004, with a facelift in 2001. Our car is a post-facelifted example. The Grand Cherokee WJ was manufactured in China too, but this particular car is a rare American import.
The Jeep Cherokee WJ Limited V8 was in an incredible perfect shape. Everything was good; the wheels, the beige-brown paint, the darkened windows, the black door handles. I stayed with the Jeep for almost half an hour, hoping the owner would show up, so I could ask him how he got his hand on it, but sadly nobody showed up.
The Limited badge in black with a classy gold font. Power came from a 4.7 liter V8 with 265 hp and 450 Nm. The engine was mated to a five-speed automatic, sending horses to all four wheels.
The interior was in a very good shape too. The sofa-like seats in dark gray leather, with wood trim on the doors. Very classy.
Very luxurious in the back as well, with two luxury seats and a simple seat in between.
The tail hook is another import thingy. Locally-made Grand Cherokee’s never had a tail hook, there was just no use for it in China.
Quadra-drive refers to a then-new four-wheel drive system, which was able to transfer power between the front and rear axles.
Everything is where it should be: the windshield wiper, the brake lights, and the roof rack.
I have seen a few more imported Jeep Cherokee WJ Limited V8’s in China, but this is by far the best of them. What an incredible beautiful car.
