The Lincoln Town Car Executive Series Is How A Luxury American Car Should Be

This is, without a doubt, the best Lincoln Town Car I have ever seen in China. It is also the last of the big-barge luxurious American cars, a kind of vehicle that has never returned. Lincoln makes small cars now, Cadillac makes sporty things, and Chrysler makes Fiats.

The second generation Lincoln Town Car was a huge machine, a proper flagship for the Lincoln and Ford brands. The sec-gen was manufactured from 1990 until 1997. Fuzzily, the Executive Series was actually the base model of the range!

I found this example on a car market in south Beijing, looking perfect inside and out. It looked like new, or even better than new. I wanted to have it. The shop was selling it for a cool 100.000 yuan or $14.500. Got to save some extra cash..😱.

This is not a car; this is a sofa on wheels. Look at those massive front seats, wider than an ocean, with a arm rest wider than a dike. The wood looks good, and even the plastics are well-maintained.

A whole town can sit on the rear bench. Hence the car’s name. Just kidding.

The Town Car was based on the famous Ford Panther platform and powered by a big 4.6 liter Modular V8 with 220hp and 386nm, mated to a 4-speed automatic. This was enough power to propel the massive Town Car to a respectable top speed of 190km/h.

The badge was a work of art, but the E looks like the €. Naturally, the Euro wasn’t around yet when the Town Car was born. So Lincoln got it first.

The third side-window in the super wide C-pillar, giving the car an air of ultimate luxury.

How big? Big: 5560/1984/1440, and wheelbase was 2982. The wheelbase is short relative to the car’s length, which is easily confirmed by the enormous rear overhang. That is at least a meter behind the rear wheel.

The Lincoln logo in the rear light.

Chrome edges around the lights. More chrome in and around the Grille. More chrome on the bumpers. Bling! License plate is from Shanghai, more than 1200 kilometers to the south. Must have been a great ride.
