About Wuling

Wuling Mini EV 4-Door Version

Wuling (五菱) is a Chinese car brand. Wuling’s owner is SAIC-GM-Wuling Motors (SGMW), a joint venture between SAIC (50.1%), General Motors (44%), and Guangxi Auto (5.9%). Initially, Wuling made only cheap minivans. Today, the brand sells a wide range of affordable EVs, SUVs, MPVs, and minivans of all sorts and sizes. SGMW also owns the Baojun brand.

3-way joint ventures have long names, even in Chinese: 上汽通用五菱汽车, Shàngqì Tōngyòng Wǔlíng Qìchē, and that means SAIC-GM-Wuling Motors. Sales of the Wuling brand are very good. In December 2025, Wuling sold 68.751 cars in China, good for a market share of 3.05% and the seventh spot in the brand-sales rankings, just below HIMA and just above Honda.

The Wuling Mini EV 4-Door Version

The name “Wuling Mini EV” now covers a series of cars: the original Mini EV, a modernized variant called the Third Generation Mini EV, a convertible, and this aptly named Wuling Mini EV 4-Door version (四门版). The name refers to the number of passenger doors. In China, the tailgate doesn’t count as a door. So, a European 5-door car is in China a 4-door car, and a 3-door is a 2-door.

The key selling point of the Wuling Mini EV 4-Door Version is the additional pair of doors, which improves rear-seat access, practicality, and interior space. Other Wuling Mini EV variants use a two-door layout. The styling also sets the 4-Door apart, with a rounder and softer design than the rest of the Mini EV lineup. In practice, it is a different model altogether.

Size: 155/70 R13.

In China, however, automakers often capitalize on the popularity of a successful model by reusing its name with minor additions. For example, a brand may launch a model called the CoolCar and see strong sales, then introduce a larger follow-up named the CoolCar+. Using this approach, some brands end up selling four or five distinct vehicles under nearly identical names.

In Chinese, the Mini EV is called the 宏光 MINIEV. The 宏光 (Hóngguāng) name has long been used by Wuling for various models. It literally means Grand Brilliance, and it meant to suggest prosperity, brightness, and success.

The interior of the Wuling Mini EV 4-Door Version

Wuling has fantastic interiors. It is basic, yet it doesn’t look so, mainly due to the colors and shiny trim bits. The design is also quite comprehensive. Look at the door panels, for example. Most Chinese brands make a complete mess of the doors, with lots of lines, trays, and different materials. The Wuling’s door, however, is just perfect. The owner of this car added seat covers, in almost the same color as the original seats, and a steering wheel cover.

A pink Jigglypuff dashboard ornament that also serves as a contact-number display. These displays are very common in large Chinese cities. Parking space is scarce, so drivers sometimes knowingly block another parked car. When the blocked driver returns, it is usually easier to call the owner of the blocking vehicle than to involve the police.

Hello Kitty is watching over the 8-inch touch screen. It looks bigger, but the bezel is gigantic. It also has a 7-inch instrument panel, a 2-speaker audio system, and 3 physical knobs for the AC. Note the “MINI EV” branding on the silver air-vent panel. The drive-selector is located between the seats. Finally, there’s a mobile phone holder between the screens.

The Wuling Mini EV 4-Door Version is a four-seat car. The rear window is rather small, covered in part by a piece of plastic. The leg room is okay for such a small car. The dimensions are: 3256/1510/1578, 2190. It is a light car, with a curb weight of only 780 kilos. The trunk is rather small, only 123 liters, which goes up to 745 liters with the rear seats down.
