The design is fairly typical for the segment, with a one-box body, a short nose, a short front overhang, large empty body panels, relatively small windows, and wheels with aero covers. The charging port is way up front, on the left side of the vehicle.

The interior

Foton Fengjing i7

Even though this car is very new, it looks like it has been used for years. The owner clearly doesn’t mind a big mess. The aftermarket seat covers have a Mickey Mouse theme. There’s a tower atop the dash shelf and a bag hanging from the center stack. The interior design is basic, but with some nice details, like the hidden air vents and the blue trim.

The plastic-fantastic steering wheel is perfectly round, with 3 spokes and a thick rim. The shifter is mounted on the steering wheel column. It has an 8.8-inch instrument panel, 4G connectivity, and a 2-speaker audio system.

A gold-colored statue with two red flags: the one on the left features a yellow hammer and sickle symbol, associated with communism. The other one is the Chinese flag.

The Foton Fengjing i7 is a six-seat car in a 2/2/2 configuration. The owner folded the second row down. The benches are removable as well. There are boxes, cartons, and a handcart.

Vans like this are very rudimentary. They need to be, because the owners will use them relentlessly without any care or respect. Maintenance? Maybe. Overload? Always. Slamming doors? Yeah!

The price in China

Foton Fengjing i7

Electric minivans are cheap in China. All of them. The Foton Fengjing i7 costs 96.900 yuan. That translates to $13.7K. For a big electric van! However, the competition in this segment is murderous, with new entrants arriving seemingly every day. One of the i7’s main competitors is the SRM E3L, a similar van with less power but with a bigger battery. More Chinese electric vans soon!
