Geely Emgrand RS 1 Million Edition Is A Rare Hatchback in China

Here’s a Geely Emgrand RS 1 Million Edition, seen in the south of Beijing earlier this summer. The car in the photos is painted in Ice Crystal White, with darkened headlights and windows, and “1 Million” badges on the front fenders.

The license plate is from Hebei Province. It is quite special; 8 and 6 are lucky numbers in Chinese culture.

Geely launched the second-generation Emgrand in 2014. It was available in two versions: the sedan Emgrand and the hatchback Emgrand RS. The Emgrand became a big success. Geely sold every car it built, and within just two years, the company rolled out one million units.

To celebrate this milestone, Geely launched the Emgrand & Emgrand RS 1 Million Edition in late 2016. It was loaded with goodies and sold for an extra low price. The RS came with standard sporty five-spoke wheels, black trim, and a small spoiler above the rear window. But way more important was:

The super-cool 1 Million badge shines in red with a silver outline. It looks stunning. Back then, China’s car buyers loved these celebratory special editions—1, 2, 3, even 10 million editions, you name it. Today, as the car market booms and growth seems never-ending, these special editions matter far less.

The interior of the Geely Emrang RS

The brown-black faux-leather seats are original, looking very classy for the segment. The car’s owner added a large EMGRAND cloth cover atop the dashboard. It has an instrument panel with two large dials, an 8-inch central screen, and a radio-CD player with a seven-speaker audio system.

There’s a tissue box on the bench. It is rare to see such an old car in China in such an original spec. Most will have ugly seat covers, various accessories around the center tunnel, and they’ll look generally crapped out.  But not this one!

The price

The rear looked sporty, with two exhaust pipe tips and a diffuser-style bumper section, complete with an integrated fog light. The Geely Emgrand RS 1 Million Edition 1.5 cost 76.800 yuan in 2016, and that was a pretty good deal, especially with badges like these:

Sadly for the owner, who clearly took very well care of his car, the Emgrand 1 Million Edition hasn’t become a desirable collectible car, yet. But maybe, if he keeps it around long enough, then one day, it will. I surely hope so.
