This is the Xpeng G7, a Chinese electric SUV. I met the G7 in western Beijing earlier this summer. It was brand new, with the dealer sticker still attached to the windscreen. The G7’s design is interesting, quite daring, and busy to the eye. But it somehow works.
About Xpeng

Xpeng is a Chinese car maker, founded in 2014 and based in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province. Today, Xpeng is one of China’s largest EV brands, with sales of about 30.000 cars each month and exports to dozens of countries around the world.
The Xpeng G7

The Xpeng G7 is a new mid-size SUV. Xpeng unveiled the G7 in early 2025 and launched it on the Chinese car market in June, and deliveries started in July. I met this Star Daytime Gray example in August, so it’s an early car.

Xpeng fits the G7 SUV with cool aero wheels.

The design of the Xpeng G7 is not to everybody’s liking. It sure is daring, a little wild even, with a mix of rounded and sharper lines. The hips are wide and high, the rear window is small, and it has complex light units fore and aft. The 18-inch tires seem too small for a car of this size.
The interior of the Xpeng G7

More gray! Xpeng does nice interiors with a minimalist design. The G7 is typical for Xpeng, with a large-diameter two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, a large 15.6-inch touch screen, and an 87-inch HUD. It has a double wireless charger and two cupholders in the center tunnel. The shifter is mounted at the steering wheel column. The seats are clad in real leather.

The Xpeng P7 is furthermore equipped with a 20-speaker audio system, a 256-color ambient lighting system, and a huge panoramic sunroof. The Xpeng P7 is a large car, so there’s a lot of space in the back. The dimensions of the Xpeng P7 are: 4892/1925/1655, 2890.
Specifications

The Xpeng G7 is based on Xpeng’s SEPA 2.0 platform. It is a single-motor rear-wheel drive car. The output is 218 kW (296 hp) and 450 Nm. Xpeng claims a 202 km/h top speed and a 0-100 time of 6.5 seconds.

Xpeng offers two LFP batteries: 68.5 kWh for 602 kilometers of range and 80.8 kWh for 702 kilometers. The car in the photos has the larger battery. Xpeng buys the batteries from CALB, one of China’s largest battery makers. Charging: 800V 5C, 10-80% in 12 minutes.

Characters: 小鹏, Xiǎopéng. Xpeng is named after the company’s founder, 何小鹏, Hé Xiǎopéng.
Pricing

The G7 with the 80.8 kWh battery costs 205.800 to 225.800 yuan ($28K – $31.6K). The base model with the smaller 68.5 kWh battey costs $27.4K. As usual in China, Xpeng doesn’t offer any options because the G7 has everything as standard.

In July 2025, Xpeng sold 33.717 cars, a new record, and good for the 19th place in the brand ranking. That month, the G7 was the third-most popular Xpeng, after the Xpeng Mona Mo3 and the Xpeng P7+.
