Here’s a Changan CX20, seen in the summer of 2023 near Zhangjiakou in China’s Hebei Province. The CX20 was in fine shape. The color is Glitter Pearl White, and it has the original 5-spoke alloy wheels.

About Changan

Changan Automobile is a Chinese car brand, founded in 1959 and based in Chongqing. The main shareholder is China South Industries Group, an enormous state-owned conglomerate that makes weapons, electronics, cars, trucks, and automotive parts.

The Changan CX20 is a mini MPV. Changan launched the CX20 in 2010, updated it in 2014, and ended the production in 2016. The car in the photos is a pre-update Sport version. Changan equipped the CX20 Sport with black wheel arches, black & gray bumper extensions, and and extra large roof rack.

The CX20 looked great. In 2010, it was certainly unique. Changan was the only brand with a car-like mini MPV.

Interior

The CX20 had a spacious interior with cool design elements, like the triple-dual instrument panel and the tech-ish center stack. The owner of the photo car added fancy seat covers and a thick red steering wheel cover.  Standard equipment included fabric seats, a radio-CD player, an audio system with 5 speakers, and manual air conditioning.

Specifications

The pre-update Changan CX20 Sport had a 1.3-liter four-cylinder petrol engine under the hood, with an output of 86 hp and 110 Nm. Changan fitted the Sport model with a 5-speed manual gearbox, sending horsepower to the front wheels. It had a 160 km/h top speed and a 6.7L/100 km fuel consumption. Size: 3900/1710/1615, with a 2450 wheelbase and a 1100 kg curb weight.

The license plate is from Hebei Province. The CX20 has a small spoiler above the window with an integrated brake light. It also has two fog lights in the bumper.

The characters are: 长安汽车, Chángān Qìchē, Changan Automobile.

In its time, the Changan CX20 was a popular car. It looked cool, it was cheap, cheap to maintain, and it was well-equipped. In 2010, Changan sold the CX20 Sport for only 54.900 yuan, and that was a very good deal.  Today, quite a few are still around, but mainly in smaller cities.
