Seventh generation Toyota Crown Super Saloon 2.8 Is Pretty In Silver In China

S120 Toyota Crown

A majestic seventh generation (S120) Toyota Crown Super Saloon 2.8, seen in the great city of Hohhot, capital of Inner Mongolia, by Friend of the Site Fa1rrhaven Zhou, thank you for the photos!

The big Toyota was in a reasonable shape, painted a a dark shade of silver with a black C-pillar and with the original ultra cool wheel covers. The car seemed abandoned, according to  Mr. Zhou, which is kind of sad, because it doesn’t look beyond salvation.

The S120 seventh generation Toyota Crown was made from 1983 until 1987. There was a sedan, a hardtop sedan-coupe, and a wagon. The sedan incorporated a classic sedan-design, with a long bonnet and rear deck, a straight windshield and rear window, and a large cabin with huge windows. Design has aged very well, timeless lines are indeed forever.

The S120 Crown was available with various engines, including a 2.0, a 2.8 l6, a 3.0 l6, and a 2.4 turbo diesel. Our Hohhot car has the 2.8 liter ‘5MGE’ six-in-line under the bonnet, good for an output of 140 hp and 226 Nm. The motor was mated to a four-speed automatic transmission, sending all horses to the rear wheels.  Super Saloon was the second-highest trim level after the Royal Saloon.

A very great photo! With the Toyota badge on the bonnet and the Crown logo, in silver and gold, on the grille.

The S120 Toyota Crown was not officially sold in China in the traditional way, with a dealer network and such. Instead, they were bought in batches and sold at general car markets. The Chinese government also used some of these cars for official duties, and others were owned by state-owned companies. Until the mid 2000’s the S120 wasn’t super rare but nowadays, with the strict emission regulations, almost none remain on the road.
