Seventh Generation Mazda 323 Sedan Is Abandoned In China

Mazda 323 sedan

A blue Mazda 323 sedan, seen on a field in the far north of Beijing. The good Mazda was sadly in a rather bad shape, and appeared to be abandoned.

The seventh generation (BH) Mazda 323 was manufactured from 1994 until 1998. It had various other names in various other markets, including Mazda Familia, Mazda Allegro, and Mazda Lantis.

The 7th 323 was not sold in China, but some cars arrived via the gray market and diplomatic channels.

This is an original first-registration-date sticker, very rare to see those nowadays. The sticker says that this Mazda was first registered in China in 2003.

The Mazda 323 was availble with various petrol and diesel engines. The smallest petrol engine was a 1.3, the largest a 2.0 liter V6. Sadly, there were no engine badges on this car so I cannot be sure what is under the bonnet.

The interior was in reasonable shape. We can see it has an automatic gearbox. Mazda sold two kinds in the 323: a 3-speed (!!) and a 4-speed.

Now that’s a proper lever!

The rear bench looks rather good, as if it was never really used.

Funky rear lights.

The tiny 323 badge.

The license plate is an oldie. The Beijing city government handed out blue 京A license plates to the earliest privately registered cars. So this is likely the original license plate for the Mazda 323 sedan.

The old Mazda badge still looks cool.
