Haima stands for Hainan-Mazda, a joint venture between Hainan Auto and Mazda, founded in 1991 on the always sunny Hainan Island.
The joint venture produced Mazdas for the Chinese market, some branded Mazda, and some branded Haima. ‘HMC’ stands for Hainan Mazda Corporation, the full name of the joint venture.
I saw this particular example in Beijing a few years back. It was in an exceptional good condition. Sadly, most of these brilliant big wagons have been scrapped today.
The one-piece Haima HMC 6470L badge.
The characters are: 海南马自达, Hǎinán Mǎzìdá, Hainan Mazda,
Small spoiler in the boot lid. Sporty! The license plate is from Shanxi Province, a long ride from the capital Beijing. On the right is the old-school exhaust pipe, sticking out far from under the bumper.
