I went to a HIMA dealer in China. HIMA is a car-making subsidiary of China’s tech company Huawei. I saw many great cars, from a 215 kW electric sedan to a 392 kW range-extender SUV. All the cars are loaded with tech and luxury.
About HIMA

HIMA stands for Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance. The Chinese name is 鸿蒙智行, HĂłngmĂ©ng ZhìxĂng. HIMA runs five brands: Aito, Luxeed, Stelato, Maextro, and Shangjie. The Chinese names share the same second character:
Aito: 问界, Wènjiè. Launched in 2021.
Luxeed: 智界, Zhìjiè. Mid 2023.
Stelato: 享界, Xiǎngjiè. Late 2023.
Maextro: 尊界, Zūnjiè. Q1, 2025.
Shangjie: 尚界, Shà ngjiè. Q3, 2025.
Shangjie doesn’t have an English name yet.
HIMA doesn’t operate its own factory. Instead, it relies on joint ventures and contract manufacturing—a common practice in China. What’s unusual, though, is that HIMA partners with a different manufacturer for each brand: Aito with Seres, Luxeed with Chery, Stelato with BAIC, Maextro with JAC, and Shangjie with SAIC. It’s a unique arrangement, made even more remarkable by the fact that all these brands are sold through the same distribution network, with experience stores and dealers.
Huawei provides various systems for each brand: DriveOne electric motors, ADS 4.0 (ADAS), Harmony Space (smart cockpit system), Harmony OS (the infotainment operating system), and Harmony Sound (audio system).
The HIMA dealer

The HIMA dealer is located in a large, well-maintained single-storey building within a bigger dealership complex in eastern Beijing. I used to live nearby, so I know the area quite well. The dealer represents three brands: Aito, Luxeed, and Stelato. The Maextro and Shangjie brands are so new that they haven’t arrived at this location yet.

That day, it was about 35 degrees Celsius, so it was hot. Inside the HIMA dealer, it was cool but not too cold. Friendly staff said “ni hao”, handed me a bottle of ice-cold water, and let me be. The shop is also a maintenance center and a delivery center, and therefore, there’s always a lot going on, with cars and folks running in and out.

A large backdrop at the entrance with the cars of the 3 brands. When it comes to sales, Aito is the largest by far. For example, in September 2025, Chinese consumers bought HIMA sold 52.916 cars. Aito alone took 76.76% of those sales, followed by Luxeed with 11.7%, Stelato with 4.37%, Shangjie with 3.59%, and Maextro with 3.58%.
Luxeed S9 EV RWD Max Long Range: 269.900 yuan ($38K).

The Luxeed S7 is a streamlined mid-size sedan with a drag coefficient of only 0.203 Cd. It is a good-looking car with near-perfect proportions, but it is also slightly anonymous. The S7 launched in 2023, and it is based on Chery’s E0X platform with an 800V architecture. This platform also underpins the Exeed Sterra ET and Sterra ES.

The S7 is 4971 mm long with a 2950 mm wheelbase. The car on display is the 2025 Luxeed S9 EV RWD Max Long Range model. It is a rear-wheel drive single-motor car. The output is 215 kW and 396 Nm. It has a 210 km/h top speed, and it does 0-100 in 5.4 seconds. The CATL ternary lithium battery has an 82 kWh capacity for a 705 km range.
The exterior color is Warm Nebula. Two people sat inside the car all the time while I was there, likely waiting for their own car to be serviced at the HIMA dealer. At one moment, the gentleman even fell asleep. Well, that means the seats are comfortable enough!
Luxeed R7 EREV RWD Pro 37 kWh: 299.800 yuan ($41K).

The Luxeed R7 is a bold car. Its design is in-your-face, with a high hood and loads of shiny bling. The R7 is an SUV-coupe, launched in 2024. It is 4956 mm long with a 2975 mm wheelbase. Luxeed sells EV and EREV variants. The Phantom Purple car in the photos is the Luxeed R7 EREV RWD Pro 37 kWh model.

Luxeed designs beautiful interiors; spacious, light, and high-tech. The cabin of the R7 is a beauty, with Nappa leather seats, a 15.5-inch touch screen, a 12.3-inch driver’s display, and a super cool oval-shaped steering wheel with a flat bottom. Luxeed equips the R7 with a 1000W Huawei Sound audio system with 17 speakers.

The interior color is White San Apricot. There’s lots of leg room, head room, and a large sunroof. The fancy pillows are standard equipment.

The fastback has an integrated spoiler, and Luxeed put another spoiler on top of it. The rear-wheel drive power train combines a 115 kW/220 Nm 1.5 turbo range extender with a 227 kW/320 Nm electric motor. The CATL ternary lithium battery has a 53.4 kW capacity, and it has a 67-liter fuel tank. Luxeed claims a 1673 km range and a 360 km EV range.
Stelato S9 EREV RWD Max+: 339.800 yuan ($48K).

The S9 sedan is, so far, the only Stelato model. The sedan launched in 2024, and earlier this year, Stelato added the beautiful S9T wagon to the lineup. The sedan is a beauty, too, especially in this Vast Blue color with darkened windows and multispoke alloy wheels. The optional camera mirrors contribute to a drag coefficient of just 0.193 Cd.
Stelato sells EV and EREV variants. The car in the photos is the 2025 Stelato EREV RWD Max+. The power train packs a 118 kW 1.5 turbo range extender + a 227 kW/320 Nm electric motor + a 53.4 kWh CATL ternary lithium battery + a 52-liter fuel tank. That’s a lot of stuff, so it weighs 2350 kg curb. It is a huge car in any way, with a length of 5160 mm and a 3050 mm wheelbase.

That’s a proper luxury spaceship interior! There’s leather all over the place, with metal trim and even some wood. The screen situation: 2 x 8-inch for the camera mirrors, a 12.3-inch instrument panel, and a 15.6-inch main screen. It also has a Huawei Sound audio system, check the door panel with 3 speakers, beautifully finished in metal.

Notice the blue lights inside the light units. They automatically switch on when the vehicle is driving autonomously, warning other road users. Huawei first introduced this feature, and many brands have followed. It isn’t legally required yet, but the government is reportedly planning to mandate it.
The Stelato S9 EREV RWD Max+ has a 202 km/h top speed, and it does 0-100 in 7.3 seconds. Stelato claims a combined range of 1355 km and an EV range of 365 km. It has a 400V architecture, and fast-charging takes 15 minutes.
Aito M5 EREV Ultra RWD: 229.800 yuan ($32K).

The Aito M5 mid-size SUV was the first car of the Aito brand, launched in 2021, with updates in 2023 and 2025. It is still a competent car, but the design shows its age.

A cool 1:18 model of the M5. Fuzzily, it is the pre-2025-update car. Nevertheless, it would be a nice addition to my collection.

Aito offers EV and EREV variants of the M5. The car in the photos is the Aito M5 EREV Ultra RWD. The RWD powertrain combines a 112 kW 1.5 turbo range extender with a 200 kW/360 Nm electric motor + a 56-liter fuel tank and a 42 kWh CATL ternary lithium battery. It has a 1440 km range and a 255 km EV range.Â

The Aito M5 and Aito M7.
Aito M7 Pro RWD: 249.800 yuan ($35K).

This is the Aito M7, a slightly larger six-seat SUV. Aito launched it in 2022, with an update in 2024. Unlike the M5, the M7 was an EREV-only car. However, it has since been replaced with an all-new model, with a choice between EV and EREV. Models come and go in China! And yes, it is just as confusing for Chinese consumers, too.

The Aito M7 has a luxurious interior, with leather seats, wood panels, and metal trim. It has a 10.23-inch instrument panel and a 15.6-inch touch screen. The shifter is on the center tunnel, a clear sign of an older car; newer Aito models have the shifter on the steering wheel column.

The car in the pics is the Aito M7 Pro RWD model. The powertarin is largely similar to the M5, with a 112 kW 1.5 turbo range extender with a 200 kW/360 Nm electric motor. However, it has a larger fuel tank, 60 liters, and a smaller battery, 38.5 kWh. Aito claims a 1290 km combined range and a 230 km EV range.

EREV or EV?
EREV is more popular than EV among all the HIMA brands. Therefore, the company promotes the EREV models much more than the EVs. There’s almost no visual difference between the two powertrains. There are no “EREV” or “EV” badges, for example, and the EREV exhaust pipes are hidden under the car’s body.
There are two ways you can see what is what: Firstly, the EREV, obviously, has a fuel cap and a charging port. Secondly, at the Aito brand, the lower bumper design of the EREV versions features an uninterrupted chrome strip, whereas with the EV, that strip is split into two parts.
Aito M8 EREV AWD Ultra: 449.800 yuan ($63K).

The Aito M8 is the most modern Aito SUV, launched in April 2025. It features a new design language, with flowing lines and rounded corners. The M8 is a great-looking machine. It looks way more high-end than the M5 and M7, just check out the pretty Night Purple paint job! The M8 is a big car, with a length of 5190 mm and a 3105 mm wheelbase.

The interior is completely new as well, with soft beige Nappa leather seats, wood panels, and aluminium trim. The build quality is excellent. It has a 3-screen dashboard setup: 68-inch HUD, 12-inch driver’s display, 15.6-inch touch screen, and a 16-inch front-passenger screen. There’s a perfectly round 3-spoke steering wheel with the drive selector mounted on the column.

An Aito-branded set of wireless microphones for in-car karaoke.

The M8 is a six-seat car with two captain seats in the middle row. Aito equips the seats with heating & ventilation, a massage function, two armrests, and a leg rest. The M8 has two large sun roofs, and buyers can also order an optional 36-inch rear-entertainment screen.

The rear lights can display animations and text. Aito offers EV and EREV variants again, but again, the car in the shop is the EREV model, the EREV AWD Ultra to be exact. I have seen quite a few M8s on the road too; all were EREVs.
The range extender is still the same 118 kW 1.5 turbo range, but there’s way more electric power: two electric motors with a combined output of 392 kW and 598 Nm. The top speed is 200 km/h, and 0-100 takes 5.2 seconds. There’s a 65-liter fuel tank and a 53.4 kWh ternary lithium battery. Aito claims a 1526 km range and a 235 km EV range. Fast-charging takes 15 minutes. What a car!
Final impressions and saying goodbye to the HIMA dealer

The screen shows the M9 SUV, launched in 2023. Strangely, the HIMA dealer didn’t have an M9 on display that day.

A board proudly shows the sales number of the HIMA brands in July: 47.752 units. This kind of self-promotion is common in car dealerships in China.

Staff at a table with fake flowers overlooking the entrance. On the right is an influencer doing a live stream with the M8. Live-streaming influencers are a thing in Chinese car dealers. I see them all the time. Mostly, they let me be as I let them stream, but sometimes, they are in my way.

It was then time to say goodbye to the HIMA dealer. My visit had been great. Friendly folks, lots of cool cars, and a well-cooled and well-lit building. What more can you wish for? Just as I left, a food delivery scooter arrived with lunch for the staff. Well, that got me hungry too! More dealer visits soon.
